Dear Parents And Students,
Thank you for visiting. I recently announced that I plan to reopen in Canton and am currently researching possible locations. I attempted to do so in 2013, but members of the Canton Police Department and their “special friends”—or, as one detective described one of them, someone he had known all his life—stood in the way. In 2026, many of us know that the CPD and those connected to them are not viewed in a positive light.
I closed solely because of what I believe was a profit-driven medical misdiagnosis by a physician rushing to open a pain clinic at a Boston hospital. I was told I would become paralyzed from the neck down, and unfortunately, I believed him. My attorney of record at the time (1991) was Canton Town Counsel, whose best friend was a well-known local builder. After I injured my spinal column in an accident in a condo built by the developer, the attorney advised me to enter bankruptcy and pursue legal action against his friend, the developer. Their ultimate goal was to file a lawsuit (tort) against the manufacturer of the garage door which could have netted them millions. I was a pawn in their plan.
I moved forward and rebuilt my life, working via a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to teach educators how to integrate technology into the classroom. I attended the Harvard Kennedy School on scholarship. I taught American Literature and AP English at the high school level. Still, I always felt something was missing, even though I was the choreographer for multiple school plays and a high school dance team coach.
I created the Jann Davis Company by bringing together a lifetime of experience in dance and education. I believe the dance studio industry is no longer a sustainable career path for many women. The field is crowded by an oversaturated competition model, a lack of studio operating systems grounded in educational goals, and too many vendors who act as though they should control our studios—from private equity buyouts to enrollment promises made by people with no experience owning a dance studio. As dance educators, we must reclaim our studios and require vendors to support our work, not the other way around.
I ask for your support as I move forward with both the Jann Davis Company and the Jann Davis Dance Center. I believe there is a better model for those of us dedicated to teaching children what we love most:DANCE.
Jann
